Scientific and technological advancements in bioinformatics over the last decade have brought a tremendous growth of data output, and this trend will continue well into the foreseeable future. The European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) is committed to help scientists realise the potential of ‘big data’ in biology, and this talk will concentrate on explaining the wider technical challenges, and solutions of ‘big data’.
Tobias Ternent is a bioinformatician at EMBL-EBI, UK. He is a technical expert for the PRIDE team since 2013, and was previously a curator for the ArrayExpress team (2011). Before joining the EMBL-EBI, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Manchester (2005), and later a Master’s degree, in collaboration with the KNH-Centre for Biomedical and Forensic Egyptology, in BioHealth Informatics at the same institution (2010). He has worked for numerous software companies, primarily managing clinical trial data for AstraZeneca in the field of translational informatics.
