APBioNET grew through the work of many. The APBioNET Champions Programme is how we recognise those who built it.
About the Programme
The Champions Programme exists to thank the contributors — committee members, event organisers, mentors, volunteers — whose voluntary effort has carried APBioNET forward, often quietly and over many years.
Who is a Champion?
A Champion is someone who has served APBioNET in any of the following ways:
- As a member of the APBioNET Executive Committee (ExCo) or as a Director of APBioNET Ltd
- In a recognised leadership role on an APBioNET-flagged event, programme, or initiative — for example as a conference organising chair, symposium lead, workshop coordinator, outreach programme lead, or APBioNETTalks volunteer
- Through any other sustained and demonstrable contribution to APBioNET’s activities
There is no application process. Champions are identified by APBioNET — not the other way around. Eligibility is not contingent on current or past APBioNET membership.
How Champions are Recognised
Each year, after the 31 December year-end, the APBioNET secretariat compiles the year’s Champions based on observed contributions across the network. The Executive Committee reviews the list and approves it by simple majority. Names appear on this page once approval is complete — typically by the end of January.
If a contributor is missed in the annual cycle, anyone — including the contributor themselves — may bring it to the secretariat’s attention.
Champions receive:
A named listing on this page
An official APBioNET Champions certificate
A digital badge for professional use (forthcoming)
All Champions are also included in the APBioNET Bioinformaticians Registry.
Our Champions
The inaugural cohort will be announced following the Executive Committee’s adoption of the Programme policy.
