ExCo Election – Meet the Candidates & e-voting

Dear APBioNET Members and Colleagues,

As announced earlier, the time has come to  vote for a new slate of APBioNet ExCo members. There are both experienced candidates who are currently serving as ExCo members as well as new candidates, covering different Asia-Pacific countries.

These ExCo members will serve the organization for 2 years, during which they will decide the direction of the organization, and provide the necessary leadership required to make it a success.

This year, the election process shall consist of e- Voting phase from 20 September – 22 October 2024.

As we approach our upcoming election cycle, we invite you to play a crucial role in shaping the future of APBioNET by nominating candidates for our leadership positions. Our organization thrives on the dedication and expertise of its members, and your participation in this process is essential to our continued success.

This year, we have several key positions open for election, including President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Board Members. [ARTICLE] A global initiative on addressing bioinformatics’ grand challenges

The Bioinformatics Grand Challenges Consortium (BGCC) is a collaborative effort to address the most pressing challenges in bioinformatics. Initially focusing on education and training, the consortium successfully defined seven key grand challenges and is actively developing actionable solutions for these challenges. Building on this foundation, the BGCC plans to broaden its focus to include additional grand challenges in emerging areas.

Dear All,

We need more nominations. We hope that you will nominate yourself or others. Do note that nominees can be someone from your organization; it is not restricted to the GOBLET contact person for your organization. Further, it does not need to be an existing GOBLET member.

Dear GOBLET members,

First of all, we, as the GOBLET Executive Board (EB), want to wish you a happy and healthy 2024!

As indicated during the GOBLET AGM 2023 (see draft minutes), a number of GOBLET EB members will step down, and we will have EB Elections in the coming month. This mail is to inform you about the process and to invite you to step forward and nominate yourself or a colleague to stand for election and take the opportunity to shape GOBLET in its second decade.

From the current EB, the following are people who will step down:

  • Eija Korpelainen (Treasurer)

  • Annette McGrath (Secretary)

  • Celia van Gelder (Chair)

The other members of the EB have indicated that they are willing to stand for election and help support GOBLET for the coming years:

  • M. Asif Khan

  • Javier De Las Rivas

  • Wai Keat Yam

  • Verena Ras

Process and Timeline for Elections:

Nomination of candidates
Anyone wishing to nominate themselves or another GOBLET member to stand for elections may complete the EB nomination form, by no later than Tuesday, 27 February 2024, midnight CET. Once the nomination period elapses, nominees will be asked to accept their nomination after which a formal election will be held. All candidates’ statements will be made available to the GOBLET members. The election will take place in the month of March through an anonymous online system. More information on the specific election period and the online system will be provided once the nominations close.
