Abstract:
Arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses) are mostly vectored by mosquitoes and transmitted to humans in tropical regions of the globe. However, as extreme climatic events and climate change as a whole continues both vectors and transmitted viruses are expanding their range to previously arbovirus-free areas. Using genomic surveillance my group is mapping the spread of high impact viruses such as Dengue and Chikungunya in South America and Brazil. We developed a range of tools for rapid genome assembly and analysis of circulating lineages that allowed us to reconstruct the transmission route of these viruses and detect the autochthonous transmission and large outbreaks in the south of Brazil. In this talk, I will address the tools and results reached using them.

Call for Participation: InCoB 2023

The 22nd International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB 2023) will be held from Nov 12-15, 2023 at the Translational Research Institute (TRI), Brisbane, Australia.

We are delighted to invite you to the 22nd InCoB, the theme of which is “Translational Bioinformatics Transforming Life”. The conference will include keynote talks, presentations of original research results, discussions in plenary sessions, poster sessions, workshops, software demos and panel discussions related to the field of bioinformatics. This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your research!

The International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB) is a scientific conference primarily aimed at scientists in the Asia Pacific region and has been held annually since 2002. Originally organised by coordination between the Asia and Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNET) and the Thailand National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) in 2002, the meeting has since been the flagship conference of the APBioNET, where APBioNET’s Annual General Meeting is held. More information of InCoB is available at InCoB Wiki page.

APBioNETTalks: Applications of long read sequencing in plant genomics

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Boas Pucker, Institute of Plant Biology, TU Braunschweig

Abstract:
Long read sequencing revolutionized plant genomics, because even large and complex genomes became accessible. These third generation sequencing technologies are offered by Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) and Pacific Biosciences (PacBio). Selected applications of these long read technologies will be presented in this talk with particular focus on the applied tools and approaches.
