Perdana University launched its Centre for Bioinformatics (PU-CBi) and a one year Postgraduate Diploma in Bioinformatics programme at its Annual Bioinformatics Colloquium 2014, held at the University’s interim campus on May 26 with the theme “Bioinformatics Transforming Life Science Research, Education, and Services”. The inauguration ceremony of the Centre witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Perdana University and Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNET).

The purpose of this MoU is to establish a framework for collaboration between Perdana University and APBioNET for the following: –

  1. APBioNET will appoint a representative as a member of the International Advisory Council of PU-CBi, which appraises progress, proposes improvements, and advises on strategic scientific directions of the Centre;
  2. The Centre to host the Malaysian Secretariat for APBioNET LTD as approved by the APBioNET ExCo;
  3. to set up an exchange scheme for teaching, research and development resources supported by the Centre; and
  4. to develop from time to time collaborative programs of mutual benefit.

The MoU was signed by Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Sothi RACHAGAN as the Perdana University representative and Associate Professor Tan Tin Wee as the APBioNET representative. Professor Dr. Haji Jammal Ahmad Essa, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Associate Professor Dr. Martti Tammi, ExCo member of APBioNET, witnessed the signing.
